Governor inaugurates Digital Exhibition of Dr. Sushi Singh’s works of art - 25th September 2020
Aizawl, the 25th September 2020 : The Governor Shri PS Sreedharan Pillai inaugurated a Digital Exhibition of Dr. Sushi Singh’s works of art and the Painting Catalogue of the same titled ‘A Timeless Journey towards Real Freedom’ this afternoon at function held at the Banquest Hall, Raj Bhawan, Aizawl. Home Minister Pu Lalchamliana, Sports Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Chief Secretary Pu Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and Addl. Chief Secretary Pu JC Ramthanga were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Sushi Singh is a multifaceted personality whose has been an educationist, a social entrepreneur, a change agent and a corporate leader advocating women issues. She is the wife of Shri SBK Singh, DGP, Mizoram.
The Governor in his inaugural address praised Dr. Sushi Singh’s varied talents and noted that her exploits as an academician have been remarkable, and her performance as a CSR advocator is also notable. The various awards and accolades she has received over time are a testament to her talents and dedicated service in various capacities, he added. Dr. Sushi Singh has discovered, nurtured and excelled her talent as a painter during this lockdown period, he further added.
On her paintings, the Governor said that for someone who has relatively only started painting, the quality of the paintings was absolutely amazing. He also said that the entire gamut of paintings, including pencil-charcoal, water colour, acrylic-canvas and knife paintings have beautifully showcased the culture and the people of Mizoram.
The Governor said “It has been correctly said that A picture is worth a thousand words". Likewise, paintings and art works have distinct advantages of conveying their messages easily to the observer. In contrast, in order to fully appreciate literary works such as poetry or a novel, you have to studiously read them and meticulously apply your mind before you can grasp their full meaning. On the contrary, one glance at a painting immediately conveys the intended message. A painting will instantly touch your heart and make you feel all kinds of emotions.
Another speaker of the event Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Sports Minister has also lauded Dr Sushi Singh for having utilized the lockdown period to the optimum and deemed her works to be quite a significant Art exercise in the exposure of the people of Mizoram and the Mizo culture.
Also speaking on the occasion, Pu Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, Chief Secretary was full of praise for the painter for having created a long lasting impression of Mizo and the people through her paintings. Through the feat of Dr Sushi Singh, Chief Secretary was also appealing to the youth of Mizoram to learn how to make the best use of any circumstance for the greater good of the society.
Dr. Sushi Singh in her keynote address mentioned that Mizoram and its people were the inspiration for the works of art she painted during the Lockdown period. On her tryst with painting she said that in life, it is never late to learn something new and the only thing which is needed for its fulfillment is dedication and the desire to accomplish one’s passion. She also mentioned that painting gave her a new perspective of looking at life and its problems. She thanked the people of Mizoram for teaching to appreciate simplicity and serenity and said that Mizoram and the people will always occupy a special place in her heart.
In the painting catalogue more than 35 works of Dr. Sushi including charcoal and pencil sketches, acrylic and water colours on paper and canvas of landscapes of Mizoram and abstract spray paintings have been included. Most of them were sketched and painted during the nationwide Lockdown period and have a thematic connection of Mizoram.
