    Mizoram Governor Releases 3 Books Authored by Prof Laltluangliana Khiangte

    Aizawl, the 26th May, 2025: Mizoram Governor and Chief Rector of Mizoram University, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), today released three books authored by Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte, Dean, School of Humanities and Languages, Mizoram University. The three books titled, ‘Anti-Colonial Chieftainess: Lalnu Ropuiliani’, ‘Indigenous Tribal Warrior: Pasaltha Khuangchera’ and ‘Anti-Colonial Hero: Mizo Lal Zakapa’, were released at the Seminar Hall, Academic & Seminar Complex, MZU.

    In his address, the Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) expressed his appreciation for the publication of three books based on famous personalities that shed light on Mizo history, culture and soul of the state, saying it was commendable that such works were being made available for public domain. The Governor praised Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte’s efforts and contributions and highlighted his significant role and expertise in literature, education and the preservation of Mizo heritage. He also said that the national recognitions Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte has received – Padma Shri (2006), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2018) and Rastriya Lok Bhasha Samman (2003), clearly reflected his monumental contributions to Indian arts and culture.

    The Mizoram Governor further stated that although the three historical figures -Lalnu Ropuiliani, Pasaltha Khuangchera and Lal Zakapa came from different backgrounds, their brave resistance efforts against colonial rulers and not get subjugated by them is truly commendable, he added. He emphasized the importance of documenting indigenous history from a cultural perspective, noting that historical records in many regions of India were often written from the viewpoint of colonial rulers. He called for continued academic efforts to ensure the accurate representation of local histories for future generations.

    MZU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka commenced the book release function by delivering a welcome speech followed by a short speech from the Author Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte. Dr. Samuel L. Chuaungo, Department of Sociology, MZU reviewed ‘Anti-Colonial Chieftainess: Lalnu Ropuiliani’; Dr. R. Zothanliana, Department of Mizo, MZU reviewed ‘Indigenous Tribal Warrior: Pasaltha Khuangchera’ and Dr. H. Laldinmawia, Department of Mizo, PUC reviewed Anti-Colonial Hero: Mizo Lal Zakapa. Pu LTL Fela proposed a a vote of thanks and concluded the function.
