Mizoram Governor Visits Mamit District
Aizawl, the 28th August, 2025: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) conducted an official visit to Mamit District today to assess progress under the Aspirational District Programme. During his visit, he engaged with heads of government departments, representatives of voluntary organisations, political party leaders and Ex-Servicemen to discuss developmental initiatives. Upon arrival at Mamit Tourist Lodge, the Governor was warmly welcomed by Mamit Deputy Commissioner Pu K. Laltlawmlova, Superintendent of Police Pu Manny Bhushan Singh, other senior officials, and was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
In a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh commended the efforts of district officials in advancing the development of Mamit, recognized as an Aspirational District under the national program. He urged sustained and collaborative efforts to further elevate the district’s progress. Highlighting the critical need for enhanced healthcare services, he acknowledged the presence of various facilities, including Health & Wellness Centres and hospitals, and emphasized their effective integration with key government health schemes to deliver high-quality services to residents. Addressing educational challenges, the Governor expressed concern over the low transition rate from upper primary to secondary education, advocating for targeted interventions to bridge this gap and equip students with practical, future-oriented skills. He also stressed the pivotal role of Common Service Centres (CSCs) in advancing the Digital India initiative, calling for their proactive and efficient implementation across the district.
Mizoram Governor noted that the central government has introduced approximately 110 schemes aimed at empowering marginalized communities, women and children. He directed officials to ensure these schemes are implemented diligently to maximize benefits for their intended beneficiaries. He further called for sustained efforts to meet the targets outlined in the Aspirational District Programme and to excel in performance evaluations across various metrics. Addressing the pressing issue of drug abuse, particularly in border areas, he urged a unified community effort to combat this challenge and other social issues that threaten progress. The Governor underscored the vital role of officials in driving the district’s and state’s development, encouraging continued dedication to the effective execution of transformative schemes.
During the event, Mamit DC Pu K. Laltlawmlova provided a comprehensive overview of the district’s administrative framework, ongoing initiatives and developmental progress. SP Pu Manny Bhushan Singh briefed the Governor on the security scenarios and measures to maintain law and order in the region. Additional DC Pi Carolyn L.B. Khiangte concluded the session with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants.
Following the meeting, senior Border Security Force (BSF) officials briefed Governor on security measures along the borders. He also held discussions with representatives of voluntary organizations, Ex-Servicemen and political party members at the DC Conference Hall to gain insights into community-driven efforts. As part of his itinerary, the Governor inspected key projects under the Aspirational District Programme, including sports infrastructure developed under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) at the DC Complex, as well as the Common Service Centre, Venghlun and Anganwadi Centre-III in Bazar Veng, to evaluate their impact on local development.
