Retired IPS Officer Pu C.Lalthanmawia takes oath as Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) for the State of Mizoram

Aizawl, the 19th September, 2025: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), administered the oath of office to Pu C.Lalthanmawia, IPS (Rtd), as the Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) for the State of Mizoram, during a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, today.
The proceeding for swearing-in ceremony commenced with the Chief Secretary, Pu H.Lalengmawia, reading out the official notification of Pu C.Lalthanmawia’s appointment as Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) by the Governor. Following this, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh administered the oath of office to Pu C.Lalthanmawia as the Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) for the State of Mizoram.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by UD&PA Minister Pu K.Sapdanga, AH&Vety. Minister Pu C.Lalsawivunga, EF&CC Minister Pu Lalthansanga, Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima and Leader of the Opposition Pu Lalchhhandama Ralte, among other dignitaries.
Pu C.Lalthanmawia, IPS (Rtd), the newly appointed Ombudsman (Independent Local Body), was born on February 12, 1965 and holds BA and LLB degrees. He began his career in 1989 with the Mizoram Police Service and was later inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS), AGMUT Cadre (Mizoram Segment), in 2022. Throughout his distinguished career, he held several key positions under the Government of Mizoram, including Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Mizoram; Assistant Inspector General of Police (Police Modernization), PHQ, Aizawl; Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Southern Range, Lunglei and DIGP, Northern Range, Aizawl.
For his outstanding contributions to public service, Pu C.Lalthanmawia was honored with the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2012 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2020. He retired from active duty on February 28, 2025, with a superannuation pension, while serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Northern Range, Mizoram. He currently resides with his family in Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl.
