Governor Visits Sairang Railway Station

Aizawl, the 1st October, 2025: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Sairang Railway Station this afternoon to inspect its facilities and engaged in discussions with senior railway officials.
During his visit, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh expressed his appreciation for the historic milestone of connecting Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, to the Indian Railway Network for the first time. He noted that this development enables seamless and efficient train connectivity to key cities across India, describing it as a commendable achievement. He urged the Northeast Frontier Railway authorities to continue their efforts in maintaining and enhancing the railway infrastructure to ensure a reliable, safe, convenient and hygienic train service that sets a benchmark for other states across the country, particularly in terms of infrastructure quality, operational efficiency and passenger experience.
On this occasion, Railway Deputy Chief Engineer Shri Harjimal Meena briefed the Governor on the technical aspects of Sairang Railway Station and, Shri Virendra Kumar Meena, Area Manager, Badarpur, provided insights into ongoing initiatives and critical updates regarding the railway operations.
On September 13, 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang New Railway Line, constructed at a cost of Rs 8,071 crore. During the event, he launched three new train services: the Sairang-Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal) Rajdhani Express, the Sairang-Guwahati Express, and the Sairang-Kolkata Express, marking the first integration of Mizoram’s capital into the Indian Railway Network.
The Bairabi-Sairang New Railway Line features 48 tunnels (spanning 12.85 km), 55 major bridges, 87 minor bridges, and four railway stations- Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang and Sairang.
