Aizawl, the 7th March, 2026: Vice President of India Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan today graced the 20th Convocation of Mizoram University (MZU) as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was held at the Multipurpose Hall on the MZU campus in Tanhril, Aizawl. The event was also attended by the Governor of Mizoram and Chief Rector of Mizoram University, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, YSM, along with Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who served as Guests of Honour.
In his convocation address, Vice President Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan expressed his delight at being able to attend a convocation at Mizoram University, one of the premier institutions of higher education in Northeast India, and lauded the campus for its exceptional beauty, serene environment, and well-maintained infrastructure. He described the occasion as a cherished opportunity to interact with bright young minds who are destined to serve the nation, society, and humanity in the years ahead. He warmly congratulated all the graduating students and degree recipients, acknowledging the pivotal role played by their parents and teachers in their success. The Vice President emphasised that receiving a degree is not merely a certificate of completion but a certificate marking the beginning of a new and meaningful lifelong journey. He described the convocation not only as a joyous celebration but also as a solemn reminder of the fresh responsibilities that the graduates must now shoulder.
The Vice President urged the graduating students not to focus solely on seeking jobs but to aspire to become job creators and entrepreneurs. He encouraged them to shift from being opportunity seekers to opportunity creators. He also called on the youth of Northeast India to harness the region’s vast untapped potential while confronting the menace of narcotic drug abuse with determination. He advised students to cultivate positive and optimistic thinking, master modern technologies, manage time effectively, and use social media responsibly. Praising Mizoram as India’s most literate state and the one with the highest forest cover relative to its geographical area, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan encouraged the youth to prioritize environmental sustainability alongside economic progress. He advocated for perseverance through self-motivation, avoiding shortcuts, dedicating time purposefully, and maintaining patience to achieve lasting success.
Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) described the convocation as a moment of culmination, inspiration, progress, and determination – a new beginning for continued advancement. He highlighted Mizoram University’s remarkable growth since its inception, noting its strong academic profile, research contributions, and status today as a vibrant centre of higher learning in the Northeast, dedicated to scholarship, innovation, and community engagement. He commended the university for achieving an NAAC A+ grade and its contributions to both education and public service. In light of rapid technological changes, global interconnectedness, and complex societal challenges, he urged graduates to prioritize adaptability, innovation, and ethical clarity. The Governor stressed that a degree carries inherent responsibility and called on the students to use their knowledge and skills in service to others, embodying the spirit of selfless service – Tlawmngaihna.
Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma congratulated the successful graduates and extended gratitude to Vice President Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan for gracing the occasion. He outlined the state government’s initiatives to advance education, including the upcoming launch of classes at Mizoram Engineering College and ongoing efforts to establish Mizoram State University. He highlighted the flagship “Handholding” scheme designed to empower youth with skills and self-reliance, urging graduates to make effective use of it. The Chief Minister also congratulated Mizoram University for securing the 82nd position among Indian universities in the NIRF 2025 rankings. He thanked all contributors to this achievement and extended best wishes for the University’s future endeavours.
Established in 2001, Mizoram University currently has 39 departments, 2 centres, and 10 Schools of Study offering UG, PG, and Ph.D. programmes. It also has 40 affiliated colleges and 1 constituent college.
