    Green Mizoram Day Plantation Drive

Aizawl, the 11th June, 2026 : Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), led the mass plantation drive on Green Mizoram Day 2026 by planting a sapling of the State Tree, Herhse (Mesua ferrea), at the Upper Lawn of Lok Bhavan this morning. Following the Governor’s lead, staff members of the Governor’s Secretariat also planted saplings at the venue.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh commended the state for its annual mass tree plantation drive on Green Mizoram Day. He urged citizens to plant as many saplings as possible throughout the current planting season and not limit their efforts to just Green Mizoram Day. Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, the Governor noted that Mizoram continues to maintain rich forest cover and healthy ecosystems. He emphasised that these forests play a crucial role in regulating the climate, purifying the air, and sustaining the water cycle, and called upon the people to actively protect these natural resources in the face of climate change. He further encouraged all participants not to restrict their efforts to mere planting, but to also ensure proper care and maintenance of the saplings so they grow into healthy, mature trees.

Present on the occasion were Mr. Vinod P. Kavle, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor; Mr. Lalnunsanga Khawlhring, Divisional Forest Officer, Aizawl Forest Division; Mr. K. Laltlawmlova, Joint Secretary to the Governor, along with other staff from Governor’s Secretariat and the Environment, Forests & Climate Change Department.
