Mizoram Governor graces The Institution of Engineers (India) Industry & Education Excellence Summit & Award 2026
Aizawl, the 20th September, 2026: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) graced the Institution of Engineers (India) Industry & Education Excellence Summit & Award 2026 as the Chief Guest. The summit, organised by The Institution of Engineers (India), was held on Saturday at the SCOPE Convention Centre, New Delhi, under the theme “Engineering India’s Global Footprint: Technology, Talent & Trust.”
Addressing the gathering, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh said that engineers have occupied centre stage in India’s development history. He noted that nations no longer compete merely for markets but for technological leadership and resilience. India, he emphasised, possesses outstanding scientific and technical talent in large numbers, which must be harnessed effectively so that Indian engineering becomes synonymous with quality, reliability and trust. He urged engineers to give their best efforts towards this goal.
The Governor spoke about India’s position and the need for further progress in areas such as Digital India, the space programme, geospatial technology, defence engineering, Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies, underlining the roles and responsibilities of engineers in these domains. Merely producing large numbers of engineers is not enough, he said, adding: “The engineer of the future must combine technical depth with systems thinking. We should judge engineering education not merely by how many degrees are awarded, but by what those engineers are capable of creating.” He also stressed that quality and standards must be treated as strategic assets so that India’s technology and talent earn the trust of other nations.
Highlighting the unique context of North East India, the Mizoram Governor observed that the region’s difficult terrain, ecological sensitivity and strategic location create demanding engineering challenges while simultaneously offering opportunities for innovation. “The North East can become a living laboratory for resilient engineering in complex terrain. Mizoram, in particular, demonstrates why infrastructure must be terrain-sensitive, climate-resilient and digitally enabled,” he said. India’s long-term future, he added, rests firmly in the hands of engineers and he called upon them to strive towards realising the vision of a developed India – Viksit Bharat @2047.
The summit brought together industry leaders, policymakers, academicians and engineering professionals to discuss India’s growing role in the global engineering and technology landscape.
The Institution of Engineers (India), established in 1920, is the country’s largest multidisciplinary professional body of engineers, with over 2.6 lakh corporate members representing fifteen engineering disciplines.
