Mizoram State Celebrates 73rd Republic Day of India
Aizawl, the 26th January 2022:Joining the nationwide celebration of the 73rd Republic Day, the celebrations were also held across Mizoram. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremonial functions were held in a toned-down manner. In the state capital where the biggest celebration was held, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati unfurled the National Flag and answered the salute of the National Flag from the Parade contingents.
In his Republic Day address, the Governor extends his warm greetings to all the people of Mizoram. He began his address by pointing out the progressive strides being made by our nation in all spheres despite Covid – 19 pandemic. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Mizoram State Government, supplemented by the churches, NGOs, civil society and all frontline workers for mitigating the impact of the pandemic. And, for the successful vaccination drive in the state he gave credit to wide publicity through the Media. This concerted effort; he believed was the reason why we have one of the lowest mortality rates among all the states.

Before concluding his speech, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati once again reminded us to never forget the core values that our Constitution propounds – Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity even as India moves forward and takes its rightful place in the world. And that we should strive harder to continue to succeed and even earn bigger achievements in the face of the pandemic. He urged the people of Mizoram to continue to observe all health precautions and safety protocols stringently since the pandemic is not yet over. To conclude his address, he once again applauded the exemplary efforts of the state government, churches, NGOs and civil society in containing the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
At Today’s Republic Day’s Celebratory function, Pu V.L. Nghaka was announced as one of 107 recipients to receive Padma Shri from the President of India for his work in Literature & Education. After this, the list including the selected officers to receive President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for meritorious service was announced.

At today’s ceremonial function, 2nd Bn Assam Rifles, 38th Bn BSF, 3rd Battalion MAP, 5th IR Battalion, Mizoram Home Guards and 1st Battalion MAP Brass Band accorded the ceremonial guard of honour. The contingents were commanded by Parade Commander C.S.Lalrinzuala, Asst Commandant, 5 IR Bn and Second Commander C. Lalmalsawma, Dy.SP (SDPO, Aizawl North). Due to the toned-down celebration due to the pandemic, the ceremonial parade with the participation of NCC contingents and school contingents did not take place.
