Aizawl, the 25th July 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati interacted with two eminent tech administrators – Prof K.N. Satyanarayana, Director, Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Tirupati and Prof S.Sundar, Director, NIT Mizoram.
Apart from the subject of landslides mitigation in Mizoram, the Governor and his esteemed guests discussed the proposed development of NIT Mizoram. They discussed how the innovations at NIT Mizoram could be utilized for the development of the Agri-allied sector in Mizoram.
Governor expressed his appreciation of NIT Mizoram for collaboration and utilization of the expertise of an already set up premier institute like IIT Chennai, IIT Tirupati and others for the benefit of the students. Governor felt that this is crucial since NIT Mizoram is yet to have a campus and infrastructures of its own. He welcomed the effort of NIT Mizoram and the Government of Mizoram for preparing all the requirements for obtaining approval for the construction of NIT buildings.
He thanked Technology Innovation Hub in Positioning and Precision Technologies, IIT Tirupati and NIT Mizoram for conducting extremely useful training on Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technology for Landslide Mitigation and Management in North Eastern Region. He further added that Mizoram is now leading the country in Dragon fruit harvest and that other states are also taking a cue from this. In this connection, Governor stressed the importance of the intervention of technologies to maximize the production in these commercially viable cultivations. He suggested that NIT Mizoram when fully set up should try to set up an innovation hub to focus on this sector.
Prof K.N. Satyanarayana, Director, IIT Tirupati apprised Governor that Technology Innovation Hub in Positioning and Precision Technologies, IIT Tirupati and NIT Mizoram are jointly organizing 5 days of training on Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technology for Landslide Mitigation and Management in North Eastern Region. He also shared the scope of working with NIT Mizoram for utilizing the technology for the improvement of various implementations in the Agri-Allied sector in Mizoram within a few years to come.
Prof S.Sundar, Director, NIT Mizoram also apprised the Governor of the progress of the NIT Mizoram Campus construction project. He expressed his satisfaction with the blueprint for the campus and its facilities which he felt would be one of the best among the NIT institutions existing. He also informed the Governor that the proposal is arriving at a final stage with positive development. He is hopeful that the construction works will commence sooner than anticipated earlier. He thanked the Governor and the state government for their support. He further requests the Governor to take up the pending proposal laying at present with the ministry.
