Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati graces PUC College’s 34th NIRF rank celebration and two-day international symposium

Aizawl, the 8th June 2023: Pachhunga University College (PUC), a constituent College of Mizoram University organised a celebration of its achievement: 34th NIRF RANKING and also hosted a two-day International Symposium on ” Sustaining Nature & Tribal Worldview: An ecocritical approach to Literature”. The program was held at Seminar Hall, Pachhunga University College. Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest inaugurated the symposium. Prof. Lalnundanga Registrar, Mizoram University was the Guest of Honor.

As per the latest India RANKING 2023(College) published National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, Government of India, Pachhunga University College(PUC) is now ranked 34th in India out of the top 100 colleges. PUC is also now the only college from North East India region that made it into this prestigious ranking.

At the outset, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed his happiness to share the success of Pachhunga University College to become one of the premier colleges in India securing the 34th rank best college in India to jump from its rank of 45th. He congratulated the faculty, the students, the non-teaching staff and everyone involved who participated to earn this great achievement. He also shared his appreciation of the institute to celebrate its success by organising an international symposium on a significant subject: Sustaining Nature & Tribal Worldview: An ecocritical approach to Literature.

Governor felt that PUC is on the right track, considering all the positive developments within the Campus, its huge accomplishments and shrewd investments along with their commitment which will continue to reap its rewards in the future. He also said that at this tempo, PUC could strive towards attaining a status of autonomy or deemed to be university status granted by DHE under the Ministry of Education, on the advice of UGC. Consequently, based on National Education Policy 2020, Governor assessed that the PUC has the potential to become Teaching intensive and Research intensive university.

He applauded the efforts made by MZU and PUC in organizing many seminars and talks on the interconnectedness of humanity and nature and the need for relative growth between them. In this connection, he stressed the relevancy and importance of these themes since they taught and reminded us of the essence of thriving along with nature and our ecosystem for the survival of humanity.

Pachhunga University College (PUC), the oldest and largest college in Mizoram, occupies a massive 122 acres of land. It has 23 departments in Arts, Science, Commerce and Management Streams, with 197 fraternity members and over 3000 students. The college now offers PG classes in five departments (Philosophy, Mizo, Life Sciences, Geophysics, and Applied Mathematics & Statistics), and PhD course in Life Sciences. PhD course in Philosophy is also expected from the coming academic session.

The College has been awarded an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.47 out of 4 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The UGC has granted the ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ Scheme, which is awarded to a few institutions over the country. The College is also ISO certified, and the Institution has been recognized as a potential ‘Mentor Institution’ to help the NAAC aspiring institutions. Further, it is a Star College under the DBT Scheme.

The function commenced with a welcome address by Prof H. Lalthanzara, Principal. Dr Lalhriatzuala, Head, Dept. of Physics gave NIRF ranking report, while Dr Vanlalveni Pachuau, Organising Secretary gave the Symposium report. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Henry Lalmawizuala, Head, Department of English.
