    Governor address Bihar State Day

    Chibai,

I am filled with gratitude as I bid farewell to Mizoram after three years and five months of service as its Governor, beginning on July 19, 2021. During my time in Mizoram, the warmth and kindness extended to me by politicians, officials, NGOs, churches and the people as a whole have profoundly touched my heart. I sincerely express my gratitude from the bottom of my heart.

Mizoram is a land of pristine beauty, almost with no pollution and favourable weather conditions where nature and wildlife flourish alongside a burgeoning tourism potential. The residents are well disciplined, hospitable and law-abiding, with the state capital Aizawl standing out for its cleanliness and disciplined traffic conduct, serving as a model for other Indian cities fondly called as the ‘No Honking City’. This has made Aizawl a role model city for other parts of India.

During my tenure, I witnessed the free and fair, peaceful, transparent and well-organized elections like the General Election to Mizoram Legislative Assembly, 2023 and the General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024, apart from many other local elections. I have also witnessed a peaceful and exemplary assembly proceedings here in Mizoram. I hope that other parts of India also take inspiration from this, I even urged the national media to carry this exemplary electoral process to other states, which really showcased the true spirit of democracy.

The youth of Mizoram are exceptionally talented, and I earnestly encourage them to venture beyond their comfort zones and strive to work not just in Mizoram but also beyond, learn from and contribute to broader societies. It is essential for us to inspire and guide our people while also learning and contributing to other cultures and societies.

It is crucial for Mizoram to effectively utilize significant Central Government schemes. Efforts must continue to ensure that people can fully benefit from the advantages provided under Social Security Schemes. It is concerning that only a small number of Mizoram’s citizens with bank accounts are enrolled in Social Security Schemes. This calls for immediate corrective measures to improve participation.

Over the past ten years, Mizoram has seen remarkable strides in development. Infrastructure, particularly roads, is being significantly improved, and by next year, we are expecting rail connectivity to reach Sairang. These advancements are certain to bring even greater progress to Mizoram. I urge everyone to make effective use of these developments with dedication and care.

As India, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, strives for achieving the status of ‘Vikshit Bharat’ by 2047, it is vital that Mizoram progresses alongside other regions of the country. To achieve this, Mizoram must wholeheartedly embrace and effectively implement key central Government schemes and policies.

I will forever cherish my time here and wish for continued blessings upon Mizoram. May we all meet again in good health and prosperity. Until we meet again.

    Ka lawm e, Mangtha Mizoram.
