Dated Aizawl, the 22nd March 2024: Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati graced the celebration of ‘Foundation Day of Bihar’ (Bihar Diwas) as the Chief guest at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan.

On this occasion, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed his delight at being able to celebrate ‘Bihar Diwas’ for it marks the day when the state of Bihar was carved out of the Bengal Presidency on March 22, 1912, continuing to be a part of the Republic of India after India’s Independence in 1947. He commented on how the state had grown since then, contributing to India’s economic, cultural and political landscape; having been the cradle of spirituality and knowledge for decades, from the ancient Nalanda University, to the teachings of Lord Buddha in Bodh Gaya.

The Governor expressed his appreciation towards the various achievements made by the state, highlighting that an important aspect about the state of Bihar is that it has an immense potential for growth as the highest percentage of young people in India, with almost 58 percent under 25 years, emphasizing on the importance of youth development for ensuring a brighter future for the state and the country as a whole. He encouraged all the attendees to immerse themselves in other cultures and traditions to foster a better sense of understanding for a more cohesive and stronger India. He then expressed his delight at all the attendees and hoped that the programme will inspire an appreciation for each others’ cultures and traditions.

The celebration of Foundation day of Bihar (Bihar Diwas) is an observance of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ programme, a visionary initiative by Government of India, aimed at promoting cultural integration and national unity by celebrating the diversity of India’s States and Union Territories. Through this initiative, the Government has provided a platform for states to exchange ideas and unique cultural heritage, with the aim of fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of one another.

In this programme, a video message from the Governor of Bihar was screened along with a video by the Bihar Tourism Department where the various historical and cultural importance of Bihar for India were highlighted. This was followed by a speech from Dr. Jay Prakash, Associate Professor, PUC, where he spoke of the various great personalities who had emerged form Bihar. Beautiful and enlightening cultural dances were performed by various parties such as: Ishupriya, performed by Raj Bhavan Family; Lamlian Lehlam, performed by Chhawkhlei Cultural Club, PUC; Jhijhiya & Chhatpuja performed by students of NIT and a cultural performance by the students of MZU.
