Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati holds consultative meeting on Power generations with Power Minister, P&E Engineers, NEEPCO and Vendors
Aizawl, the 12th August, 2024: Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati held a consultative meeting with the state’s Power & Electricity Minister Pu F. Rodingliana, his Senior Engineers of Power & Electricity Department, the representatives of NEEPCO and the Private Vendors contracted to the Solar Electricity connections in the state.
There were PowerPoint Presentations in this meeting by P&E Department, Government of Mizoram, NEEPCO and from the Vendors. After, the presentation, the meeting held a lengthy discussion on the enhancement of power generation in the state to suffice the requirement of the state and the surplus for sale, as well.
Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, at the outset, voiced his concern that Mizoram, with a huge potential in Hydro Power Generation, has for so long been power-starved, unable to generate even its small requirement of power in the peak hour and had to resort to the expensive exercise of buying from outside the state. Even though he is fully aware that the state’s limited financial resources are not enough to set up some big hydro plants he strongly suggested that the state must come up with an attractive deals to invite the big PSUs in the country which can set up the big hydro plants without involvement of the state’s money. He also advised the state’s P&E department to create awareness of schemes like PM Surya Ghar Yojana to increase enrollment of families to the on-grid rooftop solar connections. He stressed how power & Electricity, as one of the sectors where Mizoram can have self-sufficiency and how important it is to be Viskshit State if India is to achieve Vikshit Bharat.
On behalf of the state’s P&E Department, Pu F. Rodingliana, Minister of State gave an appraisal on the major initiatives of P&E during the current financial year. He also elaborated on the new government’s strategies to push for self-sufficiency in the power sector, the major ongoing works some of which are the construction of towers, lines and substations. He also detailed the modernization and renovation works to replace the old and overloaded transformers and introduce new billing software, smart meters, etc.
