Aizawl, the 14th July, 2025: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Champhai District today, where he convened a meeting with heads of government offices and held discussions with Assam Rifles officials at the Assam Rifles COB, Champhai.

Upon his arrival at Champhai Helipad, the Governor was received by Champhai DC Pu Mohammad Aaquib and Addl. SP Victor Zothansanga and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. Subsequently, a formal meeting with senior officials of various government departments was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Keifangtlang.

In his address, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) lauded the commendable efforts of government departments in advancing public welfare and emphasized the necessity for sustained progress. He underscored the importance of effectively implementing key central government schemes to maximize benefits for the general public. Highlighting the need for enhanced public awareness and education about these initiatives, he also stressed the importance of accurately identifying refugees to ensure national security. Given the limited resources, he advocated for proactive measures to prevent adverse impacts on local communities and the nation at large. Noting Champhai’s strategic location along the international border, he expressed concern over the significant issue of drug trafficking and its detrimental societal effects. He called for concerted efforts to combat drug abuse, including stringent measures against drug traffickers to minimize harm.

The Mizoram Governor emphasized the critical role of education, advocating for the creation of engaging and conducive learning environments to enable Mizo students to excel in competitive national examinations. He commended the substantial number of beneficiaries under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme in Champhai District and urged the establishment of additional Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) while promoting organic vegetable cultivation. He further highlighted the importance of optimizing key schemes, including rooftop solar projects, waste management, food processing and health programmes such as Ayushman Card, Jan Aushadhi, and Health & Wellness Centres. He stressed the provision of nutritious food in schools and Anganwadis to support child welfare. Addressing the growing impact of natural calamities, he advocated for robust preparedness measures and emphasized the need for inter-departmental collaboration to drive developmental initiatives effectively.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Pu Mohammad Aaquib extended a formal welcome and outlined the challenges faced by Champhai District due to recent heavy rainfall, along with the ongoing efforts to address them. He reported that 4,653 refugees from Myanmar have sought shelter in Champhai District due to recent conflicts. He also underscored the need to curb illegal activities, including drug trafficking, along the porous international border.

Pu Lalchhuanawma Ralte, SDC, presented a comprehensive overview of Champhai District’s administrative framework, security situation, and departmental initiatives through a PowerPoint presentation. Pu K. Zorammuana, Addl. DC, delivered the vote of thanks, formally concluding the meeting.
