Governor Graces The 18th Freshers’ Social Cum Awareness Campaign of Mizoram Chakma Students’ Union
Aizawl, the 26th October, 2024: The Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati graced the 18th Freshers’ Social cum Awareness Campaign of Chakma Students’ Union as the chief guest at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl, today. Shri Kalendra Tongchangya, Assistant Adult Education Officer of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) was the guest of honour.
In his address, the Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati mentioned that the 11th Chakma Autonomous District Council Executive Committee meeting held on October 4, 2024 took an important decision to introduce the teaching of the Mizo language from primary levels onwards in their jurisdiction, he stated that “This move will surely cultivate bilingual proficiency among students, allowing them to communicate more effectively in Mizo. Proficiency in the Mizo language will also facilitate meaningful interaction and understanding with the Mizo community, which will be beneficial in both educational and workplace settings.” While emphasizing the importance of fostering mutual respect and learning with Mizo student organizations to elevate education, he urged the chakma students to embrace the principles involving exchanging of cultural heritages through events, discussions and personal interactions while also being mindful of local customs, social and religious practices.
The Governor of Mizoram urged Chakma students to take part in various school and college activities, learning opportunities and engagements alongside students from other communities to build stronger connections. While highlighting the importance of education, he reiterated that education is not just about academic achievement but also a tool for developing well-rounded individuals, empowerment and a means to bridge gaps, resulting in understanding and unity in society. He also reminded the students that they are the representatives of their culture with the potential to contribute positively to society. Encouraging students to be diligent and sincere, he noted that as Mizoram advances alongside other parts of India, students from diverse backgrounds hold a significant responsibility to showcase their capabilities and urged the students to continue to lead with integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Guest of Honour Pu Kalendra Tongchangya, Assistant Adult Education Officer of CADC, highlighted the importance of perseverance in various aspects of education and development, encouraging students to focus on their studies and strive for excellence. He urged them to use their abilities and work diligently, reminding them of their responsibilities to the country and their community, and encouraging them to keep advancing with commitment and determination.
At the event, MCSU Aizawl Zone Gen. Secretary Ripan Chakma proposed welcome address and presented a report. Aizawl Zone President B. Pattam Chakma, CMCSU Gen. Hqrs. President Parbesh Chakma and other special invitees also addressed the gathering on the occasion. The program also included awareness campaign and entertainment, showcasing beautiful cultural songs and performances.
