    Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati felicitates Assam Rifles with Unit Citation for commendable performance

    Unit Citation for commendable performance

    Aizawl, the 10th January 2022: Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), was bestowed with the coveted Governor of Mizoram Unit Citation on 10 January 2023. The citation was handed over in Governor’s office and was attended by DIG and DIG designate HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles, Commanding Officer and Subedar Major Lunglei Battalion.

    The award was in recognition of the selfless service rendered by the Lunglei Battalion to the locals of Mizoram ever since its induction. The unit played a pivotal role in maintaining the law and order situation in South Mizoram through its relentless operations. 34 successful operations leading to the recovery of various arms, ammunition, contraband items and explosives are testimony of the same.

    Apart from maintaining the law and order situation the battalion also lent a helping hand to the local people through the provision of artificial limbs to handicapped personnel, the conduct of gynaecology and various other medical camps, assistance to local singing sensation Esther Hnamte, the conduct of various sports competitions, donations to various orphanages/drug de-addiction centres, drug awareness campaigns to name a few.

    Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati lauded the efforts of the unit during the presentation and motivated the troops to continue their pursuit of excellence in 2023.

    After the felicitation program, Brigadier Digvijay Singh, SM, DIG 23 Sector Assam Rifles and Brig Girish Upadhya, SM VSM, DIG (Designate) under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), called on Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram Dr Haribabu Kambhampati, at Raj Bhawan, Aizawl on 10 Jan 2023. The Hon’ble Governor conveyed his appreciation for the effective border management of Indo Myanmar border by Assam Rifles and the cordial relationship between Assam Rifles and the state administration. He also acknowledged the commendable work being done by Assam Rifles in managing the Illegal influx and curbing the drug menace in the State. Governor wished both the incoming and outgoing DIG good luck in their future endeavours.
