Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati felicitates Pu VL Nghaka Padma Shri Awardee 2022 and a Hindi Pioneer
Aizawl, the 17th March 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati felicitated Pu VL Nghaka, a retired official and renowned academician for receiving Padma Shri Award 2022 in the Literature and Education category. The lone recipient from Mizoram is a pioneer known for his incessant effort for propagation and development of Hindi Language in Mizoram since he started it in 1954.
In his felicitation of the lone Padma award recipient from Mizoram, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati praised Pu VL Nghaka for the enormous amount of contributions he has given to the development of the Hindi language in the state. He was also impressed with the sheer determination and enthusiasm of Pu VL Nghaka for leading Hindi education in Mizoram over a long period of time of almost 40 years. He appreciated the fact that Pu V.L. Nghaka was actively involved in the peacemaking during the insurgency period and was very useful in negotiating peace between the locals and the Hindi speaking officials at that time. From what he heard from his distinguished guest for a short period, Governor was impressed to suggest that the youth of Mizoram has so many things to learn from Pu VL Nghaka, through his works and also through his great character.
Apart from having contributed enormously to the promotion of Education and Hindi in Mizoram, he is known for outstanding performance in voluntary activities and social services. Pu VL Nghaka is also known for his exceptional bravery, such was witnessed when he saved the lives of three persons from drowning and retrieved the drowned body from the river.
Pu VL Nghaka H/o Lalbiakveli (L), presently 91 years old was born in 1930. He is the first Mizo to pass Shiksha Visharad. Later on, he passed M.A. in 1976 M.Ed in 1980. In 1954, under his leadership, the first Mizoram Assam Hindi Prachar Samiti was established at Kawnpui Village in Nothern part of Mizoram when the whole area of present Mizoram was still under Assam state. This institute later evolved and grew into the Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha. Today, the Sabha is expanding and growing with 18 schools with B.A Hindi course, 35 Prachar centres and 64 Vidhyalayas at present. He had written many important books for Hindi Education in Mizoram; out of these, the Hindi Grammar, the Hindi – Mizo Dictionary and Hindi Pariksha Sahayika are highly rated. He is now the only surviving member of the first Board of Assam (now Mizoram) Hindi Prachar Samiti established at Kawnpui Village in 1954.
