Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati graces program on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

Aizawl, the15th November 2022: Joining the nationwide celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, a program of folk song and dance 2022 was held at Chanmari YMA Hall, Aizawl today. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr K.Beichhua, Minister of State, SW&TA was the guest of honour. November 15 is celebrated every year as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas or Tribal Pride Day to honour tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda.

The program commenced with a welcome speech by Shri Arun Mishra, Secretary, SW&TA. The celebration program was divided into two sessions. In the first session, the Governor delivered his speech for this occasion. The Minister of State, SW&TA also addressed the gatherings.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed his happiness to take part in a celebration program to commemorate the contributions of the tribal freedom fighters throughout India for the independence of the nation.

He thanked the Government of India for organising Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. He believed that this empowering recognition signifies the immense importance given to the tribal community by the Government of India. The Governor rightly said that the appointment of a tribal woman as the President of India is a testament to the commitment shown by the Government of India towards the tribal community.

Governor urged the people of Mizoram to take pride in the fact that their forefathers participated in the struggles for freedom from British oppression. He said that the contributions of Chieftess Ropuiliani and other freedom fighters will always be cherished and admired.

As the name suggests, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is also a day to celebrate and take pride in the rich tribal culture and heritage of our country. In this connection, the Governor expressed his happiness to see that in Mizoram, we have managed to beautifully preserve a number of our traditions and practices. He also underlined the importance to protect one’s culture and identity.

Dr K.Beichhua, Minister of state, SW&TA also addressed the gatherings on the occasion. He thanked the Government of India for recognising the importance of tribal culture and also having aptly acknowledged the tribals in the struggles for freedom from the foreign oppressor. He had briefly highlighted the contributions of tribals like the Santhals, the Bhils, the Khasis, the Nagas, the Mizos and others for the freedom movement.

He had particularly elaborated the ultimate sacrifice given by Chieftess Ropuiliani for the freedom of India movement. The Minister of State also announced that Chieftess Ropuiliani Museum at Kelsih Village is being constructed in recognition of her great contribution to the cause of the nation in its struggle for freedom.

The program organised here in Aizawl was filled with exhibitions of folk dances by various cultural troupes and performances by various folk song artists. On this occasion, the slides displaying the journey of tribal achievers from Mizoram, Tv Jeremy Lalrinnunga, Weightlifter, Pu James Dokhuma, a renowned writer and Padmashree awardee, Pi Vanhlupuii, a top grade artist, Pu Laltluangliana Khiangte, a renowned Writer, Padma Shree Awardee and Pu R.Lalhmangaiha, Entrepreneur were also shown on the screen. The first session of the program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Pi Zodingpuii, Director, SW&TA.
