Governor Interacts with Chite Lui Coordination Committee and PWD Officials on Chite River Restoration

Aizawl, the 27th April, 2026: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), interacted with the Save Chite Lui Coordination Committee and Public Works Department (PWD) officials at Lok Bhavan on Monday afternoon. As patron of the committee, the Governor received a detailed briefing on new project under Phase 2 of the Save Chite Lui Action Plan, which targets the conservation and restoration of the Chite River.

Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh stressed the need for collective, sustained action to rejuvenate the river. He called for strategic check gates and small dams to systematically remove waste, alongside robust plantation drives along the banks. He also urged stronger coordination among stakeholders, including communities, NGOs, and departments and advised simplifying the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for practicality and achievability. The Governor offered suggestions and reaffirmed his full support for the new project’s success.

Officials presented an overview via PowerPoint, highlighting ongoing efforts in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and Public Works Department on Phase 2 of the Save Chite Lui Action Plan.
