Governor Launches Anti-Drug Campaign- Nasha Mukh Bharat Abhiyaan By The Brahma Kumaris In Mizoram
Aizawl, the 7th November, 2024: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati launched the anti-drug campaign ‘Nasha Mukh Bharat Abhiyaan by the Brahma Kumaris in Mizoram at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan at 11:00 AM, today.
Speaking on the occasion, Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed his concern that although Mizoram is a peaceful State showing good performance on various human development indicators, the increasing drug abuse and related issues have greatly impacted the lives of young people and students. He remarked on the seriousness of the problem, calling it unfortunate.
The Governor acknowledged the efforts being made by the government, religious bodies, civil society groups and NGOs, particularly the YMA in fighting against drug menace in multiple ways to combat the issue in the State. He emphasized the need for an even stronger, more collaborative approach to tackle this problem effectively, adding that “The role of Brahma Kumaris in supporting the fight against drug abuse will be helpful giving a new dimension in our fights against drugs, the Brahma Kumaris are known for their focus on spirituality and medication, their healthy lifestyle are a testament to their strong resolve and discipline”. He also expressed admiration for their commitment to a life of purity and positive self-discipline.
Stressing on the importance of maintaining cordial relations and cooperation among all stakeholders to combat drug menace, the Governor also urged the people of Mizoram to embrace all available tools for anti-drug efforts wholeheartedly and with genuine conviction. He encouraged teachers to actively participate in the anti-drug initiatives and urged them to create more opportunities to Brahma Kumaris in school programs on this topic. He also called upon students to stay away from drugs and inspire others to do the same. He further appealed all individuals working in the fight against drug to work with full dedication to this cause without any compromise.
At the event, Rajyogini BK Narmada, Centre Incharge of Brahma Kumaris, Aizawl, expressed words of gratitude, while Rajyogi Dr. Banarsil Sah, Secretary of the Medical Wing, Brahma Kumaris, Mount Abu, Rajasthan highlighted their activities and the main objectives of the Nasha Mukh Bharat Abhiyaan. Dr. Swapan Gupta, Associate Professor of Neurology at GB Pant Institute, New Delhi gave powerpoint presentation regarding drug abuse and different ways to tackle it. BK Vedhatri, Sr. Faculty at Brahma Kumaris, Delhi led a meditation session followed by oath taking ceremony to protect Mizoram from drug menace.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was launched on August 15, 2020 by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This movement aims to create mass awareness about the ill effects of substance abuse. On March 4, 2023, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Brahma Kumaris signed an MoU to spread the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan among students, women, and the youth.
