    Governor visits Serlui ‘B’ Hydel Project and Serlui Tourist Lodge

     Bilkhawthlir, the 9th June 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati visited the state-owned Hydel Project of Serlui ‘B’ and the Tourist Lodge in the adjoining area.

    Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati was apprised of the power generation capacity, the potential and other issues such as a long dry period which caused a low level of water in the dam. Pu H.Lalengmawia, Home Commissioner, Pu Lalbiaksanga, Chief Engineer and other officials from Power & Electricity Department were in attendance at this briefing of the Governor.

    In his interaction with the P&E Engineers, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati inquired about the reasons why the hydel power plant is being run at half the capacity and why it is being left idle for some months every year. In this connection, Governor also suggested the water availability survey before any hydel project is started again in Mizoram. He said that a project that is constructed with a huge amount of money should not be turned into a liability. He also shared his opinion and what needs to be done for increasing power generation in Mizoram. The viability of power generation through the Solar Plant was also discussed.

    Serlui B Dam is an earth fill and gravity dam on the Serlui River, about 35 Km from Kolasib Town. Serlui B Dam has three units, with each unit generating up to 4 MW of power. The dam is 51.3 metres high from the river bed, 293 metres long, 8 metres narrow at the top and 394.2 metres wide at the bottom. Construction of the dam began in 2003 and was completed in 2009. The Tourist Lodge at Serlui B Dam, inaugurated on 23 June 2018 is one of the tourist attractions within Kolasib district and may be worth visiting.

    Governor also had an interactive session with Tourisms Officials and Fisheries Department Officials on the potential in this area which may be initiated by their departments.

    Pu John LT Sanga, Deputy Commissioner, Pu Vanlalfaka Ralte, SP, Kolasib and other officials accompanied the Governor on his visits to the project sites.
