    Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh graces the celebration programme of 15th National Voters’ Day

    Aizawl, the 25th January, 2025: Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) graced the State level celebration programme of the 15th National Voters’ Day, 2025 at the Assembly Conference Hall in Aizawl, today. On this occasion, the Governor addressed the gathering and also handed out EPIC to newly registered voters and distributed the BLO Awards to the best performing BLOs in Aizawl District.

    In his address, Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) underscored the importance of Election Commission of India in upholding and strengthening democracy in India. He remarked that the Election Commission of India continues to evolve with the changing times, conducts elections with fairness and transparency while ensuring a level playing field for all, the use of EVMs in elections, even in remote rural areas, is a bold experiment that earned a global recognition. He further said that India is now considered one of the world’s most successful democratic nation, consistently holding free and fair elections as envisioned in the Constitution. We are a thriving democracy and the envy of our neighbouring countries who are in a political turmoil,” he added.

    Governor Gen (Dr.) VK Singh also applauded the efforts of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), District Election Officers (DEOs) and all officials involved in successfully organizing the Lok Sabha Elections, 2024 in Mizoram. He particularly paid tribute to the five police personnel who lost their lives during their duty, expressing his deep condolences and admiration for their sacrifices. The Governor mentioned that the State Government already handed over ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh each to their next of kin. In conclusion, he appealed to all the eligible voters in Mizoram to register themselves in the electoral rolls and to strive hard towards strengthening democratic traditions by being involved in the electoral process, remembering that individuals can influence government decision making through voting.

    The programme commenced with a welcome speech from Er. Lalhriatpuia, District Election Officer, Aizawl District followed by the screening of the message of Pu Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India. RK Rinsanglura, Class XI, Commerce, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School led the pledge taking ceremony on the occasion of National Voters’ Day 2025. Pu Madhup Vyas, CEO of Mizoram addressed the gathering which was followed by the EPIC and BLO Award distribution. Pu James Lalnunmawia, Jt. CEO of Mizoram proposed vote of thanks and concluded the programme.

    National Voters’ Day is observed annually on January 25 to commemorate the establishment of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on January 25, 1950. It is celebrated to raise awareness among voters about the importance of participating in elections. This year, the theme is ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure’.

    As per the Final Electoral Roll, 2025 published on January 6, Mizoram has a total of 8,69,813 registered voters, including 4,20,888 male and 4,48,925 female voters.
