Mizoram Governor Graces Pachhunga University College Cultural Day
Aizawl, the 1st October, 2026: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) today graced the 5th College Cultural Day of Pachhunga University College (PUC) as Chief Guest at the PUC Courtyard. Higher & Technical Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana and Power & Electricity Minister Mr. F. Rodingliana attended as Guests of Honour, while Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University (MZU), was present as a special invitee.
In his address, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh described Cultural Day as a valuable opportunity to remember and appreciate one’s identity. He emphasised that culture serves as the bond that unites a community and that it continues to live only when the younger generation understands, values and carries it forward. Highlighting the richness of Mizo culture, the Governor noted that it is deeply rooted in the values of Tlawmngaihna, hospitality, courage, respect for elders and a strong community spirit. He urged the youth to preserve and utilise Mizoram’s peace, high literacy and rich cultural and natural heritage for the greater good of the state.
The Governor further observed that while India has made rapid progress in development, innovation and technology, “Development becomes truly meaningful when we move forward without losing touch with our roots.” He encouraged the students to cherish their culture and traditions even as they embrace modern education, technology and new opportunities, stressing that culture must always remain their foundation.
Higher & Technical Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana observed that the preservation of culture builds great human beings and creates a solid foundation for the education. He urged the institution to continue safeguarding its cultural heritage and traditions. Culture, he said, is not confined merely to traditional attire; the younger generation must also internalise and practise respect for elders and Tlawmngaihna with sincerity of heart. He encouraged the students to become living ambassadors of Mizo culture and tradition wherever they go, so that others may witness and appreciate it.
Power & Electricity Minister Mr. F. Rodingliana expressed his pleasure at participating in the Cultural Day celebrations with the youth. He underscored the importance of continuing to uphold Mizo culture and tradition, stating that the distinctive values that bind the community together – whether in times of adversity or prosperity – must never be abandoned. While pursuing knowledge and skills, he said, equal importance must be given to building strong families. He called upon the young people to cultivate the right mindset and value system, generate innovative ideas for Mizoram and become valuable assets to the state.
Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University, also addressed the gathering and extended a warm welcome to all present. During the programme, the Laisuih Award 2026 was conferred on Mr. Zoramthanga, an alumnus of Pachhunga University College and developer of RINI Speech AI. The award was received on his behalf by his wife, Dr. Maria Sailo, from the Governor. The gathering also administered a Non-Violence Pledge. After Principal of PUC, Prof. H. Lalthanzara, released the souvenir, a vote of thanks was proposed and the formal session concluded.
In the afternoon, the cultural programme continued with a series of vibrant performances that included traditional dances and songs, music, drama, cosplay and an attractive showcase of national and international attire, adding vibrancy to the cultural day.
Pachhunga University College is a constituent college of Mizoram University. It holds an NAAC Accreditation of ‘A+’ Grade and was ranked 49th in the NIRF 2025 rankings.
