Aizawl, the 22nd July, 2025: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), was officially inducted as the Chief Patron of the Mizoram State Bharat Scouts & Guides by Pu H. Lalhmingthanga, State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Mizoram State, during a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, today.

In his address, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) underscored the value and discipline fostered by the Scouts & Guides movement, highlighting its status as one of the world’s largest youth movements. He described it as a voluntary, non-political, and educational movement dedicated to the holistic development of young people. Noting that the movement was introduced in India in 1909, he emphasized its significant role in character building and community service across the nation. Currently, over 67 million youths in 216 countries are part of this movement, living by the motto, “Once a Scout or Guide, always a Scout or Guide,” which reflects its enduring impact on members’ lives, he added.

General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) highlighted the contributions of the Lushai Scout Troop, established in 1932, which has made substantial strides for Mizoram. He clarified that the Scouts & Guides movement goes beyond uniforms and badges, aiming to nurture responsible, reliable, and community-oriented individuals. In an increasingly modern world filled with digital distractions and individualism, he stressed that the movement encourages youth to remain grounded, resilient, purposeful and aware of their societal responsibilities.

In his role as Chief Patron, the Governor assured the gathering to work tirelessly to advance the Mizoram Scouts & Guides, calling for collective efforts to ensure that youths in every district, village, and school in Mizoram actively participate in the movement. He emphasized the importance of preparing young people to become capable leaders and catalysts for positive change, ready to uphold the pride of the state and nation in the future.

During the event, Pu Lalngilneia Colney, State Secretary, Mizoram State Bharat Scouts & Guides provided an overview of the Bharat Scouts & Guides, while Pu Thankhuma, State Commissioner (AR), delivered a vote of thanks, concluding the ceremony.

Members of the Mizoram State Scouts & Guides Council were also present at the event.
