Mizoram Governor Initiates Houselisting And Housing Census 2027

Aizawl, the 16th April, 2026: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), formally marked the commencement of the intensive Houselisting and Housing Census operations under the Census of India 2027 at Lok Bhavan in Aizawl this morning. With this event, Mizoram has joined the rest of the country in commencing the House Listing and Housing Census operations.

Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh urged all census field functionaries to discharge their duties with utmost dedication and sincerity, ensuring that no household is left behind. He instructed them to explain the process clearly to those who may have difficulty understanding, so that every individual and household can be properly enumerated. Describing this as India’s first-ever Digital Census, he expressed confidence in its successful completion and appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the census officials and enumerators.

On the occasion, Mrs. H. Lalremruati, appointed as Enumerator for Lok Bhavan, successfully entered the required details using the Self Enumeration ID (SE ID) generated from the Governor’s Self Enumeration exercise conducted on 7 April 2026. With this entry, the Governor has formally completed his own Houslisting and Housing Census.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, including Mr. Joseph H. Lalramsanga, Municipal Commissioner & Principal Census Officer, Mrs. Irene Zohlimpuii Chongthu, Addl. Secretary, GAD & Addl. State Nodal Officer and other officials.

The Census 2027, India’s first digital census, will be conducted in two phases. The first phase – the Houselisting and Housing Census – began on 1 April, 2026. The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027. Under the first phase, Self-Enumeration was carried out across the country from 1 April, 2026 to 15 April, 2026. The Houselisting and Housing Census operations will continue from 16 April, 2026 to 15 May, 2026.

Following the enumeration of the Governor, Chief Minister Mr. Lalduhoma was successfully enumerated today at 1:00 PM by the concerned enumerator at his office. The process was conducted seamlessly after the Chief Minister had completed his self-enumeration on 1st April, 2026. Other dignitaries enumerated today included Home Minister Mr. K. Sapdanga and PWD Minister Mr. Vanlalhlana, who were also enumerated at their respective residences at 11:00 AM in the presence of senior officers from the General Administration Department, Aizawl Municipal Corporation and the Directorate of Census Operations.

The Government encourages all residents to provide accurate information to the Census Enumerators who are undertaking house to house visit and help support the smooth and efficient conduct of the Census.
