Aizawl, the 29th May, 2026 : Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), interacted with beneficiaries of the Post Matric Scheduled Tribe Scholarship Scheme at Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan today. The special interaction was organised under the Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026 as part of the ‘Birsa Lives in New Bharat Week’.

During the programme, the Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh appreciated the students for candidly sharing their experiences and challenges. He emphasised that the scholarship is not merely financial assistance but a vital instrument of affirmative action for the empowerment of tribal communities. He assured the gathering that the Central Government is making concerted efforts for the overall development and welfare of tribal youth across the country. He encouraged the students to act as ambassadors of government initiatives by spreading awareness about various tribal scholarships and welfare schemes in their respective communities. He also stressed the importance of strengthening premier educational institutions such as Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas to enhance the quality of tribal education.

Highlighting inspiring tribal icons, the Governor recalled the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Mizo tribal warriors like Lalnu Ropuiliani and Pasaltha Khuangchera. He urged the students, who represent the future of the nation, to fully embrace the Digital India initiative, minimise dependence on paperwork, study diligently, prepare sincerely for examinations and remain responsible towards their families, state and nation. He also advised them to cultivate a spirit of service and helping others.

The students expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government for the Post Matric Scheduled Tribe Scholarship Scheme, noting that it has been particularly beneficial for students from rural and economically backward areas. They thanked the Governor for providing them a valuable platform to share their views and acknowledged that the scholarship not only motivates them to excel academically but also reflects the government’s commitment to public welfare.

The students also highlighted certain difficulties, including delays in the disbursement of scholarship funds, which often reach them very late, affecting timely payment of admission fees, purchase of textbooks and other essential expenses. They pointed out that the current scholarship amount has remained unchanged despite the rising cost of education, making it insufficient to meet actual needs. They further requested a more user-friendly online application system with improved internet connectivity, smoother Aadhaar-bank linking processes and the setting up of dedicated help desks at bank branches. The students also suggested conducting regular awareness campaigns through educational institutions and community platforms, especially in rural areas and minimising/ removing the financial burden associated with the application and submission process.

Dr. C. Laldawngliana, Secretary of the Mizoram Scholarship Board (MSB), delivered the welcome address, while Mr. Joseph L. Hauhnar, Under Secretary of MSB, gave a detailed presentation on the Post Matric Scheduled Tribe Scholarship Scheme.

At the conclusion of the programme, the students submitted their suggestions and feedback in writing as per the Governor’s instructions.
