Mizoram Governor Presents Governor’s Unit Citation to 20th Battalion Assam Rifles
Aizawl, the 29th June, 2026: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), presented the prestigious Governor’s Unit Citation to the 20th Battalion Assam Rifles today in recognition of their distinguished service, valour, and unwavering commitment to the nation and the people of Mizoram.
During the Investiture Ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan, the Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh lauded the 20th Battalion Assam Rifles for their exemplary performance and outstanding contributions during their deployment in Mizoram. He highlighted that at a time when the region faced complex security challenges and instability along the border, the Battalion’s proactive efforts in guarding the Indo-Myanmar border were particularly commendable. The Governor commended the unit for their effective coordination with other enforcement agencies and intelligence units, which significantly helped curb the smuggling of narcotics and other illegal cross-border activities.
Describing the Assam Rifles as the “Sentinels of the North East” and “Friends of the Hills”, the Governor lauded the Battalion for maintaining excellent rapport with the local population in their area of responsibility. He noted their meaningful participation in various Civic Action Programmes, including Anti-Drug Awareness Campaigns, Health Camps and welfare activities for ex-servicemen. These initiatives, he said, have strengthened the bond between the security forces and civilians, embodying the noble ideals of Seva, Suraksha and Bandhutva (Service, Security and Fraternity) that define the ethos of the Assam Rifles. The Governor expressed confidence that the legacy of dedicated service established by the 20th Battalion would be carried forward successfully by future units. He urged all ranks to continue upholding the proud name and reputation of the Assam Rifles.
The investiture ceremony was attended by Brig. Puspendar Sorayan, DIG, 23 Sector Assam Rifles, Shri Krashnendra Singh, CE, Pushpak, Col Jaswinder Singh, SM, Commandant, 20th Battalion Assam Rifles, other senior officers and personnel of the Assam Rifles.
