Mizoram Raj Bhavan Celebrates Foundation Day of Sikkim, Goa, Telangana and West Bengal

Aizawl, June 5, 2025: As part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), today led the Foundation Day celebration of Sikkim, Goa, Telangana and West Bengal at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Aizawl.
In his address, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) emphasized that the Foundation Day celebrations of Indian States and Union Territories are held under the Prime Minister’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative. He noted that such events are regularly organized at Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas across the country to promote the history and culture of various States and Union Territories, fostering unity in diversity and encouraging mutual understanding.
Highlighting the unique attributes of the celebrated states, the Governor described Sikkim as India’s first organic state, renowned for its orchid herbarium. He praised Goa as a picturesque coastal state, a leading tourist destination and a hub of progress. He commended Telangana for its seamless blend of modern and ancient culture, as well as its prominence as an IT hub. He also lauded West Bengal for its rich historical legacy and as the birthplace of numerous social reformers and revolutionary leaders.
The event was presided over by Pi Lalhruaitluangi, APS to the Governor, who outlined the significance of the programme. Messages from Goa Governor Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and Telangana Governor Shri Jishnu Dev Varma were shared, accompanied by videos showcasing the highlights of the four states. Bipasna Gurung, a student from RIPANS; Dr. Suman Damera from the Department of Public Administration, PUC; and Dr. Anumoy Ghosh from the Department of Electronic and Communication Engineering, NIT Mizoram, delivered brief presentations on the history of Sikkim, Telangana and West Bengal. Students from RIPANS, Mizoram University and Govt. Aizawl North College presented vibrant cultural performances. The event concluded with the Governor and Lady Governor engaging with attendees at a lively gathering at Upper Lawn, Raj Bhavan.
Sikkim attained full statehood on May 16, 1975, Goa on May 30, 1987 and Telangana, India’s youngest state on June 2, 2014. West Bengal was established on June 20, 1947.
The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme seeks to strengthen bonds and mutual understanding among India’s diverse communities, languages and cultures. Since June 2023, Raj Bhavan, Mizoram, under the Governor’s guidance, has been organizing Foundation Day celebrations for various States and Union Territories to further this mission.
