    Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu interacts with academicians and leaders of the civil societies in Mizoram

    Aizawl, the 10th March 2022: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had an audience with the representatives of several groups and associations of the Civil Societies in Mizoram at the Raj Bhavan, this afternoon. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati was also in attendance at this meeting.

    In these formal interactions, the officials from Mizoram University, leaders from the NGO Coordination Committee, representatives from the Mizoram Church Leaders Committee – MKHC, the leaders of the Ex- Mizo National Army (Ex-MNA), the Leaders of the Zo Reunification Organization (ZORO) and the lone returnee from Ukraine participated.

    Representatives from each group and association took their turn to meet Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu. The leaders of the Civil Societies shared their objectives, their works, their contributions and also discussed their prioritized agenda with the Vice President. The talking points of the groups selected to have an interview with the Vice President include – the humanitarian assistance that needed to be extended to more than 30,000 refugees from Myanmar and take shelter in Mizoram along with the financial and material supports that needed to be provided to the host villages and towns in Mizoram, to speed up the peaceful solution of the Mizoram- Assam Border Issues, leniency on FRCA for NGOs and religious establishments, shifting of the Assam Rifles from the heart of Aizawl City to the outskirt, deletion of the Bru voters from Mizoram as per the agreement of the Bru’s permanent settlement in Tripura, the inclusion of the Mizo Language in 8th Schedule of the Constitution and other important issues.

    The Officials of the MZU formally submitted a request for early implementation of the MZU Southern Campus at Lunglei town. They also submitted proposals to set up Multi-speciality Hospital like AIIMS in Mizoram, College of Physical Education and Star Colleges at Champhai and Mamit towns.

    The representations in writing were also submitted to Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu.

    The Mizoram University was represented by Prof JK Patnaik, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and his colleagues. The NGO Coordination Committee was led by Pu R.Lalngheta, President, Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), the largest NGO in the state. The Church Leaders Committee, a conglomerate of major churches in the state were led by Rev. Dr. Vanlalnghaka Ralte. the Ex- Mizo National Army (Ex-MNA), the former freedom fighters of the Mizo National Front and the Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO), an organisation that has been advocating the reunification of the Mizo diaspora across the borders of Mizoram, were also represented by their respective leader.
